Our History

During the second world war the house was owned by the army and was a dental centre for local forces. R.G Archer who was a captain in the army, bought it from them, to live in and start a practice. He changed the name from Savenake to Westwood to avoid the obvious puns!

The practice started in 1948, just before the inception of the NHS, which helped the practice grow quickly. The practice was mainly NHS, with about 15% private and remained like this for some time. R.G Archer(Jnr) joined the practice round about 1965 and in common with other practices at the time, carried out a considerable amount of dental work work under sedation and General Anaesthesia.

In 1975, D.R Archer (second son) came to help when RGA became unwell and stayed until 2012! D.R Archer's daughter also worked for a short spell at the practice as a Dental Therapist, representing a rich working history of three generations of the Archer family.

Dr J Johnston (formerly Senior Dentist at Boots Dental Care Center of Excellence in Slough) joined the practice in 2005 and subsequently purchased Westwood Dental Practice with his partner Dr J Dhariwal in 2008. Together with Foundational Training Dentists, associate and specialist dentists, our support team of dental hygienist, therapists and nurses strive to create a relaxing and friendly environment for your dental care.

Westwood dental Practice retains a great tradition of providing a continuity of care to the inhabitants of Langley, Slough and surrounding towns for OVER 60 years; aiming to remain a constant in an ever changing world, helping to improve your smile and well being, based on a foundation of good dental health.

Our Mission

To provide fresh approach to dentistry, striving to transform your smile and your well being, based on a foundation of good dental health.

We Are Caring

Providing a continuity of care through all the ages. It comes down to a feeling of trust. Our job is to listen to you, respect you, educate you and not judge your decisions. We understand you might be anxious about the process of receiving dental care. Therefore, we make it a point to explain your proposed treatment plan carefully and answer each one your questions; only then will we take you gently through your treatment. Modern dentistry has many techniques, local anaesthetics and relaxation methods to increase your comfort. The more involved you are in making dental health decisions, the less room there is for fear and uncertainty. We can't wait to see you smile.

We Are Trusted

We are a proud member of British Dental Association Good Practice Scheme, and all Clinical Staff are registered with the General Dental Council, Federation Dental International, British Endodontic Society and the Society for Advancement of Dental Anaesthesia.

Our Training

All our staff attend relevant postgraduate training courses and participate in clinical audit, peer review and a committment to Lifelong Learning. You are welcome to view our postgraduate training portfolio and certificates. We also run an in-house training programme. We are a registered Foundational Training Practice for dentists and therapists, under the auspices of the Oxford Dental Deanery.

Dr S Patel (GDC:65924) BDS, MSC
Dr J Johnston (GDC:67611) LDS RCS(Eng), MFGDP(UK)
Beverley J Pates (GDC:5359) - Hygienist

All of our dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, and even our office staff are continually furthering their education through courses, workshops, and meetings with industry representatives. Our goal is to provide you with the latest, least invasive, and long lasting dental procedures.

We are committed to excellence in dentistry. We strive not only to provide the highest quality dentistry in the Thames Valley region, but anywhere. We use only the highest quality materials and supplies and will not cut corners just to save expense. Often, if there is no pain afterwards, the patient assumes that their dental work must be satisfactory. However, if sub-standard materials are used the service life may be dramatically diminished, and can often lead to more serious dental problems.

We hope to make every dental visit a positive experience for you. Long lasting relationships are built when the dentist and patient have effective communication. These relationships are fostered when both parties come to respect that the process of successful treatment planning and execution involve a partnership. We invite patients to express their concerns, their fears, and to ask as many questions as it takes to feel comfortable with treatment. You will find that our dentists are truly concerned about you as an individual. We are proud to say that over 90% of all new patients, are referred to us by patients we already treat.

We take patient safety very seriously. Infection control procedures are followed strictly. Every room is disinfected after every patient. All instruments are sterilised at very high temperatures. We only use high quality personal protective clothing and equipment to ensure your safety  at all times. All water used in your treatment is filtered within our practice before use.  We adhere to the latest guidelines in crossinfection to ensure the safety of our patients.

We have committed our practice to using the best diagnostic and treatment equipment on the market. Every treatment room has a computer system, we have intra oral and digital cameras which makes possible a high level of patient education and treatment planing for any issue being discussed.

We promise to treat all patients with concern, dignity, and respect. We will take whatever time is necessary to fully understand your concerns, and develop a treatment plan together that meets your goals. Preservation of your natural teeth through preventative and restorative dentistry is a priority. It is our goal to provide pain free dentistry and your comfort is one of our primary concerns. We respect your right to confidentiality.
